Thinking about “Charlotte’s Web”
“All experience is enjoyment,” asserts A.N. Whitehead. This statement, profound, unique and questionable, births through life and death—those actualities that keep the self in a process of becoming. Self remains in process of becoming through “experience of living and dying, and moments of creativity and wonder.” E.B. White demonstrates how the self becomes through a thread of delicate and stern sources that remain instant “in season and out of season.” Howard Thurman contends the self must be “developed,” and a group of feminist theologians reveal how this process of becoming and developing continues from aging. Hence, I conclude enjoyment comes to fruition through pain and tears, dying to live again, and from this suffering creativity births—the self is renewed in the process, “So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.”
